Collaboration between the University of Zakho and TU Bergakademie Freiberg for Advanced Research in Additive Manufacturing

The College of Engineering at the University of Zakho is proud to announce an exciting new research collaboration with TU Bergakademie Freiberg in Germany, facilitated through an academic exchange program. 

At the heart of this initiative is Renas Hasan Saeed, a PhD student and lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Zakho. His research focuses on the use of renewable raw materials from the Kurdistan region in advanced 3D printing technologies, specifically Liquid Deposition Modeling (LDM) and binder jetting techniques. His work aims to push the boundaries of sustainable manufacturing.

In alignment with the university’s strategic goals, this collaboration will lead to the establishment of a Research Center for Additive Manufacturing at the University of Zakho. The center will be dedicated to developing sustainable manufacturing techniques and advancing research in this field. It will serve as a valuable resource for students and researchers and foster collaboration between academia and industry on a global scale.

This academic cooperation is between the College of Engineering at the University of Zakho, under the supervision of Dean Farsat Balata, and TU Bergakademie Freiberg, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Henning Zeidler, Head of Project and Chair of Additive Manufacturing. This partnership marks a significant step forward in the field of additive manufacturing, particularly in the exploration of renewable raw materials. Special thanks to Prof. Dr. Henning Zeidler and the Department of IMKF, whose leadership and efforts have been crucial in facilitating this partnership and advancing shared research goals.

Assistant Professor Abdulkader Kadawu, Coordinator of the Iraq-Germany Exchange Program, has also been instrumental in strengthening the academic ties between the institutions. Their combined efforts have been vital to the success of this collaboration.

The findings from this academic exchange will be integrated into the curriculum for master’s and PhD students at the University of Zakho, enhancing the university’s role as a leader in engineering education and sustainable manufacturing technologies.
