Overview

More than half of humanity lives in cities, and the share keeps growing. SDG 11 focuses on safe and affordable housing, accessible public transport, green public spaces, protection of cultural and natural heritage, and cities that are resilient to disasters and climate change.

Key targets

•      Ensure access to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services.

•      Provide access to safe, affordable and sustainable transport systems.

•      Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world's cultural and natural heritage.

•      Reduce the adverse environmental impact of cities, including air quality and waste management.

The Center's contribution

The Center encourages research on urban planning, local heritage, waste management and green spaces, and works with local authorities to promote sustainable community development.
