For the first time, the University of Zakho has introduced the international Turkish language TÖMER certification program in cooperation with Şırnak University, providing learners with an opportunity to obtain an internationally recognized certification of their Turkish language proficiency.
The certification ceremony was held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the University of Zakho in the presence of Dr. Amir A. Chali, Representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Diyar A. Saeed, President of the University of Zakho, Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış, President of Şırnak University, Dr. Jassim M. Abdo, Vice President of the University of Zakho for Academic and Higher Education Affairs, Dr. Ivan H. Murad, Director of the Language Center, Mr. Juma Q. Mohammed, Chair of the Committee, and members of the TÖMER management committee from the University of Zakho and Şırnak University.

During the ceremony, the international TÖMER Turkish language certificates were awarded to participating learners. The recipients successfully completed the assessment designed to determine their level of Turkish language proficiency and obtained their corresponding certificates.
This marks the first time that the TÖMER Turkish language certification examination has been administered at the University of Zakho through its Language Center, with certificates subsequently issued to the participants.
The establishment of TÖMER at the University of Zakho, in cooperation with Şırnak University, provides an opportunity for students who intend to pursue master’s and doctoral studies in Türkiye. The certification may also be used to support individuals seeking employment opportunities that require Turkish language proficiency.
The launch of the TÖMER certification program represents an additional opportunity for students and language learners at the University of Zakho to formally demonstrate their Turkish language proficiency and pursue further academic and professional opportunities.
