Proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals are essential to preventing hazardous exposure and environmental contamination on campus.
GHS Chemical Labeling & SDS: All chemical containers must feature standardized Globally Harmonized System (GHS) hazard labels and have an accessible Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Safe Chemical Storage: Flammables, acids, bases, and oxidizers must be stored in specialized secondary containment cabinets with dedicated ventilation.
Fume Hood Operation: Chemical synthesis, solvent handling, and volatile reactions must be performed inside certified biosafety/fume hoods.
Hazardous Waste Neutralization: Chemical solvents and toxic liquids must never be poured into standard campus sinks or drains.
