The Directorate enforces strict biosafety protocols across all teaching and research laboratories at the University of Zakho to protect researchers, students, and the environment from biological hazards.
Biosafety Level (BSL) Standards: All laboratories must operate according to designated Biosafety Level procedures (BSL-1 / BSL-2) with appropriate containment measures in place.
Biological Waste Management: Biohazardous waste, bio-contaminated sharps, and culture media must be autoclaved or safely segregated into labeled biohazard containers prior to disposal.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Lab coats, safety goggles, and protective gloves are mandatory inside active research areas.
Risk Assessments: Research projects involving biological agents must undergo prior safety clearance by the Health and Safety committee.
