Universities shall adopt the semester system based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). Each academic year shall be divided into two regular semesters:
· Fall Semester
· Spring Semester
Each semester shall extend over 20 weeks, including all teaching, learning, assessment, and examination registration activities, provided that the actual teaching period shall not be less than 14 weeks.
A university may divide the academic year into three trimesters. Each trimester shall last 13 weeks, including all teaching, learning, assessment, and examination registration activities, provided that the teaching period shall not be less than 10 weeks.
In addition to the two regular semesters, a university may offer a summer (short) semester, whenever necessary, during the summer recess. The maximum academic load that a student may register for during the summer semester shall not exceed 12 ECTS credits.
The academic year shall commence at the beginning of September and continue until the end of June. Students shall comply with the academic calendar for each semester, as approved by the University Council and endorsed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
